Far more than a book publisher, Island Press helps create better environmental policy by assembling programs and conducting national educational outreach so that the information and ideas in each of our books reaches decision-makers in government, business, and other sectors; practitioners working in conservation; students; and the public.
Outreach
- Science and Environment Resource Center - Aims to improve environmental science and policy by connecting great thinkers and their ideas with government, business, and advocacy audiences and the media.
- Eco-Compass - Island Press's community blog, where we invite the community to participate in discussion of important environmental issues.
- Author Events - Island Press authors speak at events across the country. Events are free and open to the public.
- Island Press Readers - Compendiums of chapters from some of our most important and popular titles on a single subject.
- Partnerships and Affiliate Programs - Offers ways we can partner with others who share a commitment to the environment, such as developing publication series and offering benefits to organizations with memberships.
Programs
- Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) - Aims to sustainably preserve ecosystem services for future generations by offering a scientific basis for action, with a set of solutions and policy recommendations.
- Colorado River Basin Assessment - Based on the MA methodology, presents four unique scenarios of what the Colorado River Basin might look like in the future given current trends, pressures, and policy options.
