Caravan Books

Island Press is proud to be part of Caravan, a project merging traditional book publishing and distribution with new digital technologies. Supported by the MacArthur Foundation and the Century Foundation, Caravan is a partnership of seven nonprofit publishers, along with the nation’s largest book wholesaler and a group of independent and chain bookstores.

Launched in spring 2007, 23 Caravan titles were selected from among the offerings of Island Press, Beacon Press, The Council on Foreign Relations Press, The New Press, The University of California Press, The University of North Carolina Press, and Yale University Press. For fall 2007, 40 books from 12 publishers will be included. Each Caravan title is published simultaneously in five different formats:

• in traditional hardcover or original paperback bindings
• large print
• as a downloadable e-book
• as an audio book
• as separate e-chapters, from which readers can purchase and download select material from the book

Caravan’s mission is to serve all who have a stake in quality nonfiction—authors, publishers, wholesalers, retailers, and libraries—by offering books where, when, and how readers want them.
