Ian L. McHarg

The late Ian McHarg founded the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning in 1954. He chaired the department until 1986 and continued to teach at Penn as a professor emeritus until his death in 2001. His books include Design with Nature and A Quest for Life. He co-edited the comprehensive selected collection of his writings, To Heal the Earth, with Frederick Steiner.
